You are now ready to eject your TomTom device and use your POI file. Purchasing and Installing your Points Of Interest file
Detailed Steps:
Once you have purchased your POI file you will find it listed in the ‘My Voices’ section of your account on www.VoiceSkins.com.
To download the POI file:
- Go to www.VoiceSkins.com
- Click ‘My Account’ at the top of the screen, and enter your login details
or
If you are already logged-in, click ‘My Voices’ in the left-hand panel of your ‘My Account’ page. - Click the ‘Download’ button to the right of your POI file.
This will begin the download process, which will take only a few seconds. Your POI file (e.g. Snoop_POI.zip) will download to your Desktop (on Windows computers) or your ‘Downloads’ folder (on Apple/Mac computers).
Note for Microsoft Windows / Internet Explorer users: if you don’t see a ‘Save As’ dialogue box asking if you want to save the download, or if you don’t find it on your Desktop (i.e. your system is set to automatically save all downloaded files), then check the yellow bar under your toolbar/above your browser’s main window and see if you need to click that bar to allow the download to continue. If you require further help with this, please contact our support staff at: enquiries@locutio.co.uk
Installing your downloaded POI file:
Installing your POI file simply requires you to unpack the zip file, and copy two files inside the folder into a folder on your TomTom device. The following detailed steps will guide you through this process if you are unfamiliar with copying files to and from your computer.
If you are totally unsure about carrying out these steps after reading them, ask a friend or colleague who has experience in copying/installing files to give you a hand.
Locating your downloaded POI file:
Open Windows Explorer (or Finder on a Mac computer) to locate your downloaded POI zip. To open Windows Explorer, click on the START button, then My Computer, then the ‘Folders’ button in the toolbar (Mac users should open Finder by clicking the Finder icon on the far left side of dock).
Windows users will find the Desktop icon at the top of the tree of folders in the left-hand pane, click this icon. Mac users should click the ‘user name’ in the left hand pane of Finder, and then the ‘Downloads’ folder in the right-hand pane.
As stated above, your downloaded POI file should be found on your Desktop (Windows PC’s) or your ‘Downloads’ folder (Apple / Mac computers). To extract the files from the POI zip files, either:
- Double-click the zip file to look inside it, where you will see the files listed below (double-clicking the zip on a Mac computer will automatically carry out the same steps as option 2, next paragraph)
or - Right-click and choose ‘Extract All”, then ‘Next’, then ‘Next’ again’ then tick “Show Extracted File” and click ‘Finish’, to create a folder with the same name (next to your POI zip on your Desktop), within which you will find the following files:
(using Snoop’s POI file as an example):
- Snoop_Dogg_POI.bmp (image that appears on TomTom map screen)
- Snoop_Dogg_POI.ov2 (POI software file for TomTom device to read)
- Snoop_Dogg_POI_ReadMe_EULA.txt (End Users License Agreement)
- Snoop_Dogg_POI_How To Install.txt (As the name suggests)
You are going to copy the “name.bmp’ and ‘name.ov2’ files onto your TomTom device. (‘name’ represents whatever the name of your POI file is) – SO LEAVE WINDOWS EXPLORER (OR FINDER) OPEN – don’t close them.
Also inside the POI zip is a copy of these instructions, and the End User License Agreement (note: you already agreed to the site’s terms when you purchased your POI file).
Installing your POI file onto your TomTom device:
- Plug your TomTom device into your PC or Mac using the TomTom USB cable and then power on the device. If TomTom HOME starts up - close it down as it won't be used. If you accidentally closed your Windows Explorer or Finder windows, reopen them by following the steps above.
- In Windows Explorer (or Finder) navigate to your Desktop: Windows users will find the Desktop icon at the top of the tree of folders in the left-hand pane, click this icon. Mac users should click the ‘user name’ in the left hand pane of Finder, and then the ‘Downloads’ folder in the right-hand pane.
- Having found your POI zip and either opening the zip to show the files listed above, or extracted the zip to a new folder and locating the files above, click the file named: “name.bmp’ to highlight it and select ‘Copy’ from the ‘Edit’ menu, or right-click and choose/click ‘Copy’.
- Open a second Windows Explorer (or Finder) window and navigate to you TomTom device; for Windows users this will appear in the tree of folders in the left-hand pane (similar for Finder users).
- Click the ‘+’ symbol next to the TomTom icon to open its tree of folders, and then click, to highlight, the folder that stores your map files – this may be called ‘United Kingdom_Ireland’ or ‘USA_Canada’ or the name of the country map you have installed on your device.
- Now click the ‘Edit’ menu and click ‘Paste’, or right click inside the country map folder (in the right hand pane) and click ‘Paste’. You should now see your ‘name_POI.bmp’ file somewhere in your country map folder.
- Go back to your first Windows Explorer (or Finder) window and select the other POI file to copy: ‘name_POI.ov2’, and copy that across to the country map folder of your TomTom device, using the same steps as above.
- You have now installed your newly purchased POI file onto your TomTom device. Good eh?
You are now ready to eject your TomTom device and use your POI file.
To eject your TomTom device in Windows, right click the TomTom icon in the left-hand pane of Windows Explorer, and click ‘Eject’. Look at the TomTom device screen and when the ‘X’ is no longer showing you may remove the USB cable and restart (shut-down and start-up) your TomTom device. Mac users should eject the TomTom device by clicking the ‘eject’ icon to the right of the device name / image shown in Finder.
For further guidance on connecting and disconnecting your TomTom device, see your device’s user guide, or click the following link and choose your device model name/number from the list that will appear on your screen: http://www.tomtom.com/support/support.php?ID=3&Language=1
Using your newly installed POI file on your TomTom device:
There are now a number of different TomTom device on the market, some with different options/preferences menus. Turning your Points Of Interest on is a very simply process, but due to these differences between models, we cannot list the various steps here (or this would turn into a book).
To use your newly installed POI’s, see your device’s user guide, or click the following link and choose your device model name/number from the list that will appear on your screen: http://www.tomtom.com/support/support.php?ID=3&Language=1
Have fun! And most of all, enjoy driving to each of the places on your Points Of Interest list, and enjoy yourself even more when you get to each place. And then enjoy yourself some more…you get the picture.

- Then navigate to the ‘Sounds’ folder on your TomTom device, and paste the seven wav files into that folder.

Purchasing and Installing your Additional Sounds / Warning Sounds
Detailed Steps:
As the process of downloading, locating and installing your Additional Sounds / Warning Sounds is virtually the same as installing Points Of Interest files, we would ask you to follow the steps above entitled ‘Purchasing and Installing your Points Of Interest file, Detailed Steps’, with the following differences:
- Instead of finding the POI files in the extracted zip folder on your Desktop (or Downloads folder in Mac OS X), you will find seven wav files: ‘name1.wav’, ‘name2.wav’ etc. It is these seven files that you must copy onto your TomTom device.
- Instead of copying your files into the ‘United Kingdom_Ireland’ or ‘USA_Canada’ country map folder (or other country name) on your TomTom device, you will copy your files into the ‘Sounds’ folder on your TomTom device.
You will then be ready to eject your TomTom device and use your Additional Sounds files. For further guidance on using Additional Sounds / Warning Sounds on your TomTom device, see your device’s user guide, or go to the following link and choose your device model name/number from the list that will appear on your screen:: http://www.tomtom.com/support/support.php?ID=3&Language=1
You may wish to ask a friend or colleague to install your Additional Sounds / Warning Sounds files if you are totally unfamiliar with copying/installing files on your computer.
